An ongoing work in Progress
Dedicated to Echo Co., 2/3/3 in country Vietnam, with whom I walked into the valley of death, and fields of killing. dying, and serious injury, wherein there lurked intense fear, terror and horror greater than in an opiates dream, even more than Dante could have imagined.
After giving up the hobby of art during the week of graduation in Psychology, thinking he would no longer have time for art, he soon realized he did have time, and wanted to do a picture, but had none of the materials that he previously worked with. He had old magazines though, and he had glue, and he remembered from grade school that a fringe of white remains around ripped or torn paper. He also remembered his mother often spoke of wanting a rock house. He wondered, "if I find the right color of paper, and make it into the right shape and size, would it look like a rock with mortar around it"? He quickly sketched the image of a house and began ripping, tearing, and pasting. That was in the fall of 1976 and Martin's beginning with this unique, fascinating technique of art.
Here you will see original works featuring: Sky, Land, Waterfalls, Wildlife (and other living things), Rustic Country Cabins, Barns Fruit, Flowers, People, and Abstract. Some are just pretty pictures. Most tell a story; from Mallard Ducks flying over Toledo Bend, a lake created by flooding farmlands that borders Louisiana and Texas, to an image going from fantasy to realism, to surrealism, chaos, happiness, the dying of a Smoky Mountain Community,t to an image depicting he effects of trauma on humans, and more. But the real story is in the technique itself and how it allows for greater depth, color, and perspective rarely achieved in other mediums, and its similarity to works of the old masters, Impressionism, Modernism, Pointillism, even Stained glass at times.
There is much to see So-take your time, scroll down, and look around. The store , located at the top right, is working so check it out too. Please take a moment at the end of your visit to ask questions, share comments, or just say "Hi".
